The majority of the population is tribal belonging to various cultures including Tibeto – Burman, Mongolian and Austro- Asiatic. A visit to these tribes is a must if you visit the northeast India. Hornbill festival of Nagaland is really famous and one must attend it during their stay.
Mouth Watering Food
North East has a really wide food culture and great recipes. Tibetan thukpa and momos are best served in this region. Tchang, a beer served in the bamboo mug is a specialty in Sikkim. Chira, muri, komal chaul, apong, Jodah, Zu are some of the delicacies to try when you visit the northeast India.
Known as the land of the seven sisters, the north east is not much affected by the modernization. Each state has its own charm and each of them more beautiful than the other with its mountain and landscape view. The Brahmaputra river and mountains on three sides make this region a beauty to look at.
The Sibsagar town of Assam is full of historic forts and temples with underground architecture. Agartala was home to Manikya kings in the past and therefore preserves history. Unakoti, an ancient pilgrimage center in Tripura is a tourist spot for devotees. Kailashahar and Jowai are other places to visit for historical sites.
Assam has vast tea plantations which have an amazing look of itself. You can just sit there and have a sip of the best tea you will have had in your life.
North East is best explored when you are traveling by your own means. By doing that you can stop anywhere you want and enjoy the beautiful surroundings by the roadside. The road from Shillong to Cherrapunji is amazing to travel with the spectacular view and great weather. Kalimpong to Zuluk path is completely nerve racking as it has 32 wild hairpin turns and bends and it has the best scenery around it.

This region is not easily accessible from the rest of the world and hence the natural diversity of Northeast is very well preserved in its area. The endangered Brow-antlered deer can be found only in Manipur. Kaziranga, Manas and other national parks with animals like leopard, pygmy hog, rhinoceros, tiger, and birds like eagles, falcons, herons make it a huge wildlife reserve.
Music and Night Life
Music and classical dance are an essential part of northeast India. Bizu, Hai Hak, and Basanta Raas are famous dance forms of Tripura. Bamboo dance is another famous dance form of Mizoram with drum and gong as the traditional music forms. The people of this region are fond of music and they have endless celebrations here, so tourists can enjoy the culture.
