The history of the hotel dates back to 1844 when it was built by twelve-year old Prince, Capt. F. Cotton, who had bought the Ferrnhills property for Rs. 10,000. During mid-1860s it was temporarily named Moonesami and served as one of the Ooty’s earliest club hotels. The property was later bought by His Highness Chamarajendra Wadiyar X in the year 1873. Since then Ferrnhills Royale Palace has been with the Wadiyar dynasty and today it is successfully run in the able hands of  Her Highness Promoda Devi.
