Well, gorgeous landscapes, impressive history, natural thermal baths as well as Turkish warmth and hospitality helps the country to climb the top ten ladder of travel destinations without much ado. Let’s entail what all the reasons to visit Turkey.
Now, that’s something we are always excited about when on a foreign land! In fact, first thing you land in Turkey, you mind must be storming as you wonder where to devour yourself with a great meal before you go exploring. Now, don’t fret, Turkish cuisine is not just restricted to the all popular Turkish tea and Turkish coffee, its culinary range extends from quite exquisite wine to insanely delectable gourmet dinner. Thankfully, one of the simple reasons to visit Turkey is the food. Turkey”s local eateries, dainty taverns, and food inns are a marvelous delight in its own right. Also, beer is quite the culture here, so beerholics are guaranteed a great time in the country.
Fun fact: People in Turkey are interestingly religious about their beverages, so you might as well get to experience authentic and varied flavours of ‘Caj’, a term synonymous with tea and coffee in Turkey
Some of the signature dishes that you should definitely try, when you visit Turkey are ‘Borek’, ‘Manti’, ‘Kuzu Tandir’, ‘Meze’, ‘Pide’, and ‘Dolma’. DO NOT FORGET the simply insatiable- the Turkish kebabs!
This is one delicacy that deserves a separate mention. Baklava is a special type of Turkish sweet. One may define it as a dry pastry with layers of flavoured stuffing. This rich sweet dessert, is made up of layers of filo, with chopped nuts (mostly almonds) honey or sugar blossom syrup.
Pistachios are a must in Baklava for the enhanced flavour. Walnuts are also added sometimes, during the preparation of Baklava. Although, you might easily get this sweet dish anywhere in the world, however, only the land of the Turks promises you an authentic flavour.
Turkish baths almost claim to be divine and hence, becomes one of the supreme reasons to visit Turkey. Commonly known as ‘Hamams’, Turkish baths are symbolic of the fact that traditional exotic spa existed years back as well.
If you feel worn out by the journey, or just want to experience it once- However, variations have been introduced to the tradition, not that you would say no to- they have just raised the bar higher with aroma therapies, oil massages and facials too!
The capital city of Turkey, Ankara does not receive widespread attention, as much as Istanbul does. But Ankara makes for a great place, if you want to observe the everyday Turkish lifestyle from a traveller’s perspective (not a tourist). A lot of households here are rooted in traditional practices and the layout of the city is also medievally enchanting. Ankara flaunts eclectic mix of tradition and modernity, making it even more interesting.
Turkey has a plethora of places to visit. To name a few worth visiting places in Turkey- Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, Ephesus, are important to mention. Hagia Sofia is one of the finest specimens of Turkish architecture and design.
It was once a Christian church, later transformed into a mosque and now it is a museum. If you have a taste of nightlife, then the town of Marmaris is simply perfect for you. It has nice restaurants and clubs and is absolutely lit, while the rest of the world sleeps.
The local markets of Turkey are a great place for shopping lovers. You can buy carpets, kililms (authentic Turkish carpets), artistic stuff like handmade products, etc. at Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar. Include the Topkapi Palace and the Blue Mosque at Istanbul to delve into its historic beauty. Cruise rides are a must, when you visit Turkey.
The Turkish land is abundant in lovely beaches as well. Tick off at least 3 to 4 of them- Antalya, Alanya, Ilica beach, Iztuzu, Kalkan, Avsallar and many more. We weren’t kidding when I was talking about diversity that Turkey offers. Another one of the many reasons to visit Turkey at least once!
Turks in general are warm natured and helpful. Looks are godbless, we agree, but they have good hearts, or least, many would like to believe! It’s because of that they are considered quite pleasing personalities who are excellent when it comes to treating you right.
These guys highly encourage cultural exchange, hence, don’t be dazed if any local out there invites you over dinner or evening tea, even if you do not know them personally. Enjoy some ‘Caj’ and they might as well treat you with ‘baklava’ too!
Although there isn’t any particular time of the year, that restricts your travel plans to Turkey in any manner- Spring and Autumn are considered ideal. April- May and September to mid-November are suitable months. If you call yourself a wanderlust, then please visit Turkey, you owe it to yourself!
